What a day.
Today I feel extremely sad to have to accept and understand that some people and groups are so evil. Today was the 117th running of the Boston Marathon, one of the most inspiring and prestiges marathons in the world. An international event in which people come together from all over the world to run for charity. As the clock ticked past 3:00 pm multiple bombs went off just to the side of the finish line. The finish line, of all places, a place which signifies such an amazing achievement for the runners who partake in this amazing event. Why do things like this happen? What is this really meant to do? are we living in a time and day in which there is so much conflict that we want to instill fear and terror within others minds, when innocent people are out trying to be positive during trying times.
My mother, my long time friends mother, and numerous other close friends and loved ones were in the vicinity of this tragic event that took place today. As minutes went by after I saw the breaking news come on the television, my mind started to race with a fear for the worst. Panic instilled and fear running through my veins, hoping that my mother, friends mother, and loved ones were okay. Is that the whole point of this horrific day? Taking piece of mind from people and replacing it with terrible feelings of anxiety knowing you are so close, yet too far to do anything in the immediate present is a crippling feeling.
My friends and family are physically okay thankfully, we are some of the luck ones considering the early statistics of two dead and over a hundred injured. The mental scars and fear I’m sure will remain with my family, friends as well as all of the spectators involved.
Amongst one of two so far that has not made it is an eight year old. An innocent child’s life was taken today, along with piece of mind of numerous others. Please before you go to bed tonight, or whenever you can, say a prayer to whoever or whatever it is you believe in. Pray not only for those affected but pray that the world we live in will start to change. Nobody benefits from acts of pure evil and hatred. We need to learn that we, as a whole, are what we have in this world. Each person you walk by on the street, pass in a car and so on, has a life that is just as complicated and stress filled as yours. We must remember that we are each others brothers, sisters and best friends, so let’s start spreading that mentality.
Thanks for listening,
John
